Maritime & Energy Conference
Creating Currents Together

Norway and the Philippines have a long history of collaboration on maritime and energy issues. When the Norwegian tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl docks in Manila in October 2022, we want to celebrate this successful partnership – and to strengthen it even further. We are therefore organizing a two-day event called Norway – Philippines Maritime & Energy Conference – Creating Currents Together. At this conference you will be able to meet world-leading Norwegian and Filipino companies from the maritime and energy sectors, presenting solutions to some of the most pressing issues of our time.

Statsraad Lehmkuhl is a 108-year-old Norwegian tall ship, currently circumnavigating the world as part of the One Ocean Expedition. This is a global campaign that highlights the crucial role of the ocean for sustainable development and is endorsed by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. The campaign is recognised as making a significant contribution to SDG14, particularly through its strong educational component focused on the crucial role of the Ocean.

MARITIME DAY

Partners at sea

Norway and the Philippines are connected by a strong and proud maritime history. At this conference we are asking some of the most crucial questions facing the maritime industry today. How can we decarbonize and reach net-zero emissions of greenhouse gasses? How do we respond to rapid developments in regulatory requirements, disruptive ideas, and bold initiatives? The industry is facing fundamental change and new competencies are required. How do we keep up with it all? By sharing insights, ideas and experiences, the conference will help the industry navigate in the right direction.

ENERGY DAY

Committed to the energy transition

The Philippines is the only country in Asia with a deregulated energy market. This has created great opportunities for the private sector, including Norwegian companies. With annual economic growth predicted to return to 6% in 2022, energy consumption is set to increase in the years to come. The government wants to increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix, opening further opportunities in hydro, solar and offshore wind for Norwegian and Filipino companies.

Norway is a world-leading player in renewable energy and is a committed partner to achieve the Philippines’ goal of 75% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from a 2020 baseline by 2030.

The conference will present the untapped opportunities in the energy transition of the Philippines, with interesting insights from Filipino energy powerhouses, representatives from the government, renewable energy associations, financial institutions, as well as Norwegian players in the renewable energy sector.

Statsraad Lehmkuhl

Statsraad Lehmkuhl was built to teach. Originally created in 1914 as a training ship for the German merchant navy, she was purchased in 1923 by the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association and transferred to the Bergen School Ship Foundation the following year.

Today she’s maintained and operated by the Statsraad Lehmkuhl Foundation, and her mission to share knowledge and experience is ongoing. “Statsraad Lehmkuhl has been educating people for more than 100 years,” says Haakon Vatle, CEO of the Statsraad Lehmkuhl Foundation.
